Canonical attaccata e criticata duramente.
Dopo gli ultimi annunci di Canonical, l’interà comunità open-source si è adoperata per attaccare e criticare duramente la compagnia sudafricana.
Il fatto più sconcertante è che le critiche rivolte verso Canonical provengono Anche da membri interni. Primo su tutti Martin Owens che dal suo blog ha annunciato la sua dipartita dal team con una frase ad effetto “La community di ubuntu è morta“.
Ecco parte delle sue parole:
Launchpad asked me if I wanted to continue to be an Ubuntu member. I thought about it, and have decided that I don’t. The one thing I’ll miss is being able to post to Planet Ubuntu. But I have to be honest, there isn’t an Ubuntu community any more. There’s a Canonical community, an ubuntu-users gaggle and maybe an enthusiasts posse. But no community that makes decisions, builds a consensus, advocates or educates. It’s dead now, it’s been that way for a while.
E non è stato l’unico, anche Philip Ballew nel suo blog dice la sua a proposito di questa nuova politica.
We have no say in any core decisions, and I find this unexceptionable. This is not community, this is hierarchical class system with an almost direct juxtaposition to the Ubuntu I used to know. We are made to be people who are used and abused and uninformed of the inner workings of the actual Ubuntu system until every other Ubuntu user finds out. How can I go from working at UDS on how to spread Ubuntu when I am just as unaware as any other Ubuntu user out there as to what this Ubuntu is that I have volunteered to spread. Am I still valued?
L’oggetto di questa critica sembra, in gran parte, dovuto a quest’uscita improvvisa di Mir, il nuovo server grafico prodotto da Canonical, il quale ha lasciato Sam Spilsbury (Creatore di Compiz) sbigottito. Sam ha voluto commentare il Post di Philip:
What’s really disappointed me is the level of uncertainty the community as a whole is currently facing. For example, the entire story around what actually happens to 13.04 at the moment has been incredibly vague and opaque, and quite recently I was told that I was basically going to throw away 4 months of hard work because Ubuntu wasn’t going to take my patches because they don’t want to take community patches on compiz anymore. So I’ve just stopped working on compiz because I don’t even know how things are going to be handled at canonical.
In casa Canonical si dovrebberò veramente preoccupare perchè queste non sono le uniche critiche ricevute, l’interà comunità open-source si sta adoperando per far sapere a Mark & co. che loro non sono più ben accetti.
A me tutto questo mi sembra veramente esagerato, posso capire in parte le parole di Philip, ma Sam? E’ ovvio che lui sia adirato, senza Ubuntu lui rimane disoccupato, ma quanti volevano ancora Compiz? Io no
